Game on (the wall)
A client found lots of memorabilia from their nephew, who was a games maker at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and decided to put them all together as a reminder of his time at the event.
Nought to get cross about
How do you create a giant puzzle to hang as wall art? With some difficulty, but the result can be impressive.
Our client had an idea to create a noughts and crosses puzzle to hang on the wall. The original idea was to do 9 separate frames and hang them in a matrix. However we discussed the idea of bolting the 9 boxes together and putting a frame around the whole thing with a single sheet of glass to hang in front. It's a heavy piece with a lot of structural bracing, but once up it looked fantastic!

A client presented me with the challenge of framing a Japanese fan which she wanted to be able to display from either side.
Also she wanted the option of being able to hang to frame case. We were both very happy with the result!

Come on you Blues (or Reds or whatever!)
For those sporting fans who want to frame their memorabilia, some times adding team colours gives the picture that little extra something, like this West Ham poster I did recently for a client. A winning combination!
Double Album
A client recently asked me If I could frame a vinyl record and have both sides visible to look at. It's a request that people often enquire about. It's essentially 2 frames placed back to back. If you want to hang the picture, it has to be buy chain or hook from the top. Alternatively, as in this case its a free standing object which can be lent against a wall or put on a display stand.
Educational TV
A famous local college were having their boardroom redecorated and as part of a push to bring the college into the 21st Century had a fancy big screen Ultra high definition TV installed. Unfortunately the slab of black glass and steel were somewhat at odds with the traditional decor of the room. The AV installers asked us to produce a frame to disguise the TV and help it blend into the room. After some discussions and a lot of careful measuring , a frame was produced and fitted to the TV, with spectacular results.

Policewoman framed
A local policeman asked me to frame some items as a parting gift to a loyal colleague. A nice simple way to say thank you for a lifetime of dedicated service.
Time waits for no man
A wonderful client of mine asked me if I could frame an unusual family heirloom, namely a watch handed down from his father who in turn got it from his father. I had the idea of presenting it like a medal, with the 3 men's names on the 'ribbon'. The framing was very effective and the client was very pleased with the result.
Floored
It's nice to remember where you and a loved one first met. Two clients of mine met at the iconic Leadmill club in Sheffield. The club is offering bits of the old dance floor to anyone who was interested and my clients got a piece. The asked me to frame the wooden block in a memorable way. I immediately thought of a float frame which gave the piece an iconic look and although small in size is bold in stature.
A gig to remember
We all have our favourite bands and a client of mine loves the band Coldplay. She was lucky enough to get some bits and pieces signed by the band and asked me to put them together in a frame. The result speaks for itself and she was delighted with it and can now be reminded of a great gig every time so looks at the wall.
Bit by bit
One of my clients has very kindly been bringing me pictures to frame on a regular basis. Every time she came to collect, she'd have another few! They are all in the same black frame. I asked her where they all go and she told me they were building a wall installation of collected unusual prints from around the world. It's quite a nice idea to have a lot of pictures of various sizes grouped together for a wall display. The results can be stunning, and in this case they were!
Framing a Mini Masterpiece
One of the nicest aspects of this job is the variety of artworks brought to us and the history behind them. Recently a client brought me a small unassuming oil on wood.
The picture, untitled landscape of nowhere in particular as far as she knew, was given to her late father-in-law by artist Ben Levene in 1972. He lived near to them in Forest Hill. Her father-in-law was a heating engineer and used to spend his weekends putting in systems for people and Ben gave him the painting as part payment!
She says "It was stuffed in a cupboard until we unearthed it a month or so ago, while clearing our parents house in Dorking. We’ve looked up Ben Levene, as you can also do of course, and it looks as if his career really got going a year or so afterwards, as he became RA in 1974. He appears to have been moderately successful, and there was quite a substantial obituary in The Guardian when he died, in 2010, I think. He exhibited in pretty well every summer exhibition and quite a lot of his work has come up at auction in the last ten years. He painted a lot locally in South London I think. From where they lived in Honor Oak/Forest Hill, you get really good views towards London. We just liked it and decided to have it framed. I think otherwise it would have ended up in a skip!"
Although the painting is small and unassuming, the use of a black lacquered tray frame with an orange accent turned it into a glorious mini masterpiece.
Just what the doctor ordered.
A local GP who had recently retired from the Old Cottage practice brought me a very interesting picture to frame.
Years ago one of the practicing doctors at the Old Cottage painted a mural on the wall of the main boardroom. Sadly that building was demolished and the painting was lost. Luckily before that happened a high quality photograph was taken of the mural, and subsequently colour prints of the picture are handed out to staff when they retire.
Such a wonderful picture needed to be framed and I'm glad to say the doctor agreed to have the picture framed with the best quality materials and the result was spectacular.

One of my clients is local artist, Judit Matthews. And recently I was proud to frame an illustration of hers which she was showing to the Society of Women Artists with the hope of displaying in their summer exhibition. I'm glad to say the picture was accepted. Well done to Judit.
